Raised on the family farm/ranch north of Hanna, Alberta, Glen relocated to Medicine Hat to attend Hillcrest Christian College, where he met and later married his wife Sue.
In 1980, he began his policing career with the Medicine Hat Police Service (MHPS) and served in various capacities including Patrols, Intel, Major Crimes, Professional Standards and the Tactical Team. Glen helped start the first MHPS Victim Services Unit and finished the last 8 years of his career as a Commissioned Officer, teaming with the Executive in the Office of the Chief to provide oversight to the Operations, Support Services and Administrative Divisions of the Police Service. Prior to his retirement in 2015, Glen received several service awards including the Queen Elizabeth II Diamond Jubilee Medal for dedicated service in 2012, and in 2013 was presented the Order of Merit of Police Forces by Governor General David Johnson.
Always active in his community, Glen has volunteered over the years with Big Brothers/Big Sisters, Block Parents, Youth Safe House, Eagles Nest Ranch, Medicine Hat Women’s Shelter Society, Housing First Steering Committee, Medicine Hat Housing Society, Medicine Hat and District Food Bank, Santa Claus Fund, as well as coaching hockey and basketball, and being active with his local church and several other organizations.
First elected in a 2016 by-election, Glen is honoured to be afforded the opportunity to serve the great people of the expansive Medicine Hat-Cardston-Warner riding. Glen is currently serving on the Public Safety and National Security Committee and was appointed to the National Security and Intelligence Committee of Parliamentarians in 2019. Glen is a vocal advocate for stronger public safety measures including leading the study of rising rural crime rates in Alberta and pressing the government to make public safety their top priority. In 2019, Glen tabled the largest electronic petition in Canadian history (at that time) condemning the Liberal government’s promise to confiscate firearms from law-abiding, licenced owners while ignoring criminals with illegal firearms.
Glen and Sue have been blessed with two grown children and six grandchildren, all of whom call Medicine Hat their home.
